British Values

At Montbelle Primary School we uphold and teach pupils about British Values as directed under new Ofsted guidance, September 2014. Democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those of different faiths are taught explicitly through our PSHE curriculum, SMSC, Citizenship and RE and are embedded in our school values through being a Stonewall Champion and Rights Respecting School. We deliver a broad and balanced curriculum and have achieved the following external accreditations which demonstrate evidence of our commitment to British Values:

  • Recognition of Commitment – Rights Respecting School
  • Stonewall Champion

In addition to our curriculum, we promoted British values through:

  • regular assemblies with a focus on respecting children’s rights
  • being a Stonewall Champion
  • our Rights Respecting School Steering Group
  • creating links with community projects eg Greenwich Food Bank
  • our active, elected school council
  • involvement with the Junior Citizen event
  • visits to local places of worship

This year we will build on this work through:

  • establishing a constitution for our school council
  • working towards Silver Stonewall Award
  • Achieving our Rights Respecting School Level 1 Award
  • introducing buddies across the school
  • Continuing to develop children’s understanding through regular assemblies
  • embedding the use of buddies across the school
  • staff training and raising awareness of the PREVENT statergies.
