At Montbelle School we encourage KS2 pupils to learn to play musical instruments. At present we have tutors who work within the school providing tuition in flute, guitar, keyboards and violin playing to children in KS2. Lessons of 15, 20 or 30 minutes each are given weekly within normal school hours. The cost to parents is calculated on the basis of £23.50 per hour, payable each term in advance on receipt of an invoice. The school will pay a proportion of the costs of lessons for families facing financial hardship. Parents do not need to buy an instrument when their child begins learning as the school can loan you an instrument, although children taking keyboard lessons need access to a keyboard or piano for daily practice.
Parents or Carers who would like their child or children to receive instrumental lessons within school can fill out a form available from the office, or write a letter, and return it to the music co-ordinator. Lessons are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and waiting lists are kept when there are more applicants than places available.
It is assumed that children will continue with instrumental lessons throughout their school career. As children progress to a good standard of playing they join the school band, which practices together weekly and plays at special events.
