Forest school- took part in our forest school area on site. The children climbed tress and explored and also had some fun using sparklers as it was bonfire night.

Woodwork– the children created their own cars using screws and screwdrivers to connect their items together using screwdrivers and then they painted them.

Ice skating: Reception have been learning about ice and how it changes/ melts. We carried out experiments to test our ideas and used this to find out new information. At the end of the Autumn term,  we went ice skating where the children got to experience ice skating for themselves and we had discussions about why it was slippery and how and  why it was melting. The children were fantastic at skating and all showed no fear.

The children have been learning about growing their own fruits and vegetables this week. We read the story ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ and talked about how in the story, Grandpa is growing lots of vegetables in his garden. We then visited our own allotment patch at school and have been weeding and planting our own vegetables up at the allotments this week. We are very excited to take care of them and watch them grow!

In class we have been discussing healthy food and drinks and about the sugar that is in some of our food and drinks. We have also been talking about the natural sugars that can be found in some food and drinks too. This led to us making our own fruit smoothies in class using bananas, strawberries and grapes- mixed with milk in the blender. It was lots of fun, especially drinking it after we had finished!

Wednesday 11th May 2016

As our topic book this half term, the children have been reading ‘What the Ladybird Heard’. To support our learning further, we went on a school trip to Kent Life Farm. The children enjoyed the ‘Meet the animals’ workshop where they met goats, cows and chickens and were able to learn interesting facts. They also explored ‘cuddle corner’ where they were able to hold rabbits, chickens and guinea pigs. The children went on a tractor ride around the site where they were keen to wave to anyone that passed them! Finally, the children also had the opportunity to explore the site finding more animals such as pigs, horses and alpacas as well as exploring old farm buildings. It was a fantastic day out!
