How we use the Sport Premium and Funding

Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer. This means that premium is used to:

  •  develop or add to the PE and sport  activities that school already offers.

  •  make improvements now that will benefit pupils joining the school in future years.

Funding may be used for:

  • hiring qualified sports coaches to work with teachers.

  • providing existing staff with training or resources to help them teach PE and sport more effectively.

  • introducing new sports or activities and encourage more pupils to take up sport.

  • supporting and involve the least active children by running or extending school sports clubs.

  • running sport competitions.

  • increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games.

  • running sports activities with other schools.

At Montbelle, we believe that P.E. and school sport play a very important part in the holistic development of our children and in setting our children up to live their lives in an active and healthy way. Through collaboration and participation, our children develop respect, co-operation and regard for themselves and others.

School Principles for PE and Sport Premium Grant Spend

Key achievements to date:

  • Funding new sports equipment,

  • Increasing participation levels in PE through targeted intervention for identified groups and individuals and the use of a sports coach for KS2 lunchtime access to sport in the playground,

  • Raised standards in PE through three, externally provided PE INSETs, with a focus on Gymnastics, Games and Athletics,

  • Providing continuous CPD for staff through paired teaching with a PE specialist, ensuring all class receive two hours of high quality PE teaching each week, one of which is taught solely by a PE specialist.

  • Providing access to a range of clubs, using the PE Premium to subsidise some to provide access for all,

  • Beginning a Montbelle Football Squad to further competitive sport,

  • Collaborating with our cluster schools to develop opportunities for sport and widen access to specialist equipment and teaching.

  • Increased participation levels in inter/intra competitive sport and healthy activity of pupils, developing the knowledge and skills children need to maintain these ideals into adult life.
